Fact Check: KWTX Story October 20, 2016

November 5, 2016

Statement: In an October 20, 2016 story, KWTX quoted a Baylor statement about the University's decision to remove Jeremy Faulk from the football team. The statement said the decision was "based upon violations of the university and athletic department Code of Conduct... and did not require other Executive Council members nor Title IX staff involvement."

Fact Check: The statement provided by Baylor was misleading. Faulk was dismissed from the football team following a report of alleged sexual harassment that had occurred at his prior school before he transferred to Baylor. As Faulk has publicly disclosed, he was the subject of an additional sexual assault allegation while at Baylor. When these facts became known to Baylor's athletic transfer review committee, it recommended Faulk be removed from the football roster. The decision was made by a group of administrators consisting of Acting Athletic Director Todd Patulski, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Chad Jackson, Associate General Counsel Doug Welch and Faculty Athletic Representative Jeremy Counseller. They communicated that decision to Head Football Coach Jim Grobe, who agreed to follow it.
