Fact Check: Title IX Access to Police Reports

November 5, 2016

Statement: In media interviews, Patty Crawford has said that she was refused access to police reports during her tenure as Baylor's Title IX Coordinator. "I was told by many women and complainants that they had filed police reports with Baylor police, Waco police, but I was having a very hard time getting access to those reports, even though these cases had been closed," Crawford told "60 Minutes Sports."

Fact Check:The Title IX Office received every BUPD report related to Title IX that was taken during Ms. Crawford's time at the University. She was never denied access to any past BUPD report she requested. When Waco Police asked BUPD to refrain from sharing its reports with non-law enforcement agencies, Baylor police officers instead provided the Title IX Office extensive written summaries of Waco PD reports.
