Statements from Baylor and Reagan Ramsower Responding to KWTX-TV Questions

November 2, 2016

Q: Patty is disputing a number of the claims on the timeline of Patty Crawford’s employment – specifically, that there were any concerns about her performance. She cites positive reviews and raises. We’d like to clarify those things.

Reagan Ramsower: "Patty Crawford was a passionate and tireless advocate for victims of sexual assault. From that perspective, she was a good Title IX coordinator and her evaluations and pay increases reflected that. However, it became evident to her colleagues that the job requirements of running a Title IX office far surpassed her management skills. As the emails and documents posted on the Baylor website clearly show, we made every effort to support Patty, including providing her extensive management training, additional staff and a 250 percent increase in her budget. In addition, there were some other HR issues that I can’t and won’t go into."

Q: And, in general, we’d like to discuss why has the University decided to make this information about Patty Crawford public at this time.

Baylor University: The Baylor Board of Regents determined in October that the Baylor family needed and deserved more transparent and forthright communication. They asked the University to seek ways to follow through on that decision. Baylor has done so by responding factually to questions posed by various media outlets and claims made by Patty Crawford.

Q: We’d like to ask about Patty’s claims that Reagan verbally berated her after she sent her concerns in writing. (I know he addressed that in 60 Minutes, but that part of the video hasn’t been made available)

Reagan Ramsower: "I never verbally berated Patty Crawford. I was troubled when I got a lengthy memo outlining numerous concerns which she had never brought to my attention, even though we’d been in 12 meetings together in the previous five weeks.

"I wanted to stress to her that my door was always open and she could come by anytime to talk with me about the way the implementation was going."
